To the Person That I talked with about Klass Kote Satin Catalyst a Few Days Ago:
I was so impressed with the Klass Kote results that I sent the e-mail below to all of my modeling friends. This message is to just give you some feed back.

Subject: Klass Kote Epoxy Paint Test Results
------
I read a favorable report in the National Free Flight Society Digest about six months ago on the new Klass Kote epoxy paint, formulated as a fuel proofer overcoat (it is not only supposed to be just like the old K&B Super Poxy, but it will also mix with K&B Super Poxy). Thinking ahead about the Airborn's silk job, I called the guy and ordered one can each of Clear, Satin Catalyst, Gloss Catalyst, and Reducer (thinner) which arrived almost immediately. It has been sitting on a shelf in model room all this time. The product cans are shown below, which required a little cash layout to buy.
I mixed up three small batches:
(a) 1-part Clear, 1-Part Satin Catalyst, & 1-Part Reducer.
(b) 1-part Clear, 1-Part Gloss Catalyst, & 1-Part Reducer.
(c) 1-part Clear, 1/2-Part Satin Catalyst, 1/2-Part Gloss Catalyst, & 1-Part Reducer.
This was to examine the variations in the sheen of each mix. What is interesting is that you mix the Clear and the Catalyst and let it sit and combine for 45 minutes. Then you mix in the reducer and apply.
I had a doped silked test frame that I had made up sometime ago for testing various fuel proofer coatings, which I used to test the three mixes. I did not want to go through the hassle of air brushing the test samples, so I just painted the mixes on with a brush, which dried to the touch within 10 minutes. I took the picture below after an hour's drying time. I have tried to compare the sheen results of each mix in the picture for you.
Conclusions based on these test results:
- Klass Kote is easy to mix and brushes on beautifully, flowing out leaving almost no brush marks (however, I will airbrush the Airborn).
- You can easily vary the finish sheen by the mix proportions of Satin and Gloss Catalyst.
- After drying for 30 minutes, the 100% Satin mix becomes basically invisible on the doped silk (see right panel above).
- Upon close inspection, the effect 100% Satin mix is make the surface smooth with a consistent flat sheen or finish much like a light primer or sanding sealer might do.
- For all the world, the 100% Satin mix surface looks just like a perfectly homogeneous doped silk covering.
- No question about it, I will use the 100% Satin mix on the Airborn fuselage and other silked parts (I love its appearance!).
I hope that my test has provided all of you guys with some useful information.....................Tandy
