TESTIMONIALS - THE FEEDBACK FROM KLASS KOTE USERS

I had used K&B clear for a top coat for years. I was delighted to see a product that was similar on the market again. Congratulations. Shot some Klass Kote on my newly completed Spitfire a few days ago. Great stuff, I had to apply in temperatures of 102 degrees F, but no problem with the reducer at 30% of the volume. Used an old trick we used to do with K&B to get a more scale like gloss by using a mix of 2/3 satin catalyst and 1/3 gloss. I was surprised to see the high gloss that resulted. I guess I should have used straight satin catalyst. Thanks for bringing a really good "two part" sealer coat back for R/C.

My experience with your Klass Kote paints was excellent. I used it to clear coat over PPG Acrylic Lacquer. It was compatible and worked perfectly. Since the model is used in Masters level scale competition, the colors have to be exact. PPG has cross reference lists to mix their paints and perfectly match FS numbers. But it is not fuel proof, hence the Klass Kote Clear #40 finish, which holds up to 20% nitro fuel just fine. The model scored near perfect in the color and finish category.

Thanks again for a wonderful product.

I have just finished using Klass Kote for the first time, I have painted my Chinook helicopter with Gray Primer #50 and Olive Drab #340. WOW this stuff really is great, I painted the primer using a regular automotive air gun but didn’t want to do all the clean up again so I used a PreVal one-time use sprayer for the top coat - works great and no cleaning the gun.

Thanks for a great product,
Neil

I filtered the clear through a coffee filter. It took a while, but worked great. The clear went on very clean and came out looking fantastic.

Hi, some months ago I tried your paints and reported that they far exceeded my expectations. My previous experience with both Hobby epoxy and K&B epoxy was very satisfactory, but both these products are no longer manufactured. I had just completed a 1/6 scale Grumman F-5F(Skyrocket) and needed a good covering paint. I was really pleased that the Yellow #160 completely covered with only two light coats. My previous experience with other paints required 3 or 4 coats. The Aluminum #80 paint covered without any fisheyes and dried to a perfect continuous finish. Both colors sprayed on with no runs or excess build up. I am very pleased with your product and will use it again on my 1/4 scale Fokker D-VIII, my next product.

I have been asked from time to time what epoxy or epoxies I use for my feather work and I have always told everyone that I use HobbyPoxy. I had recently discovered that HobbyPoxy no longer exists, except for my stash. I have now experimented and found a substitute and it is even better than HobbyPoxy.
I use Klass Kote now and it is some really nice stuff. It is gin clear, very thin and VERY, VERY sand paper friendly. What I mean by that is that when you sand it smooth for the final coats, it fills in all scratches and finishes as nice as HobbyPoxy when applied to the sanded area. Because it is thin, it really fills in the scratches and levels nicely.
From what I can see, this Klass Kote stuff is really nice to work with and EVEN better than HobbyPoxy and I thought I would never say that. If it keeps doing what it has done for me, then I and several others are going to be happy. This is not a good picture, but this is your stuff at its best, I believe.

Hi Guys,

I just wanted to let you know that I'm very impressed with your paints.  I'm not a good painter but liked your products very much as they are very easy and simple to use and despite all my efforts, I could not get this paint to run anywhere on the plane which by the way I have always managed in the past with other products.  That is how inexperienced I'm with painting.  I used your product in temperatures way below your recommendations with excellent results.  I just wanted this project finished so I can move on over to the next one hence the rush.  Anyway, great product and service.  Below are some pictures of my plane which is twin turbine powered.  I'm just finishing some final detail and then I’m looking forward to lots of flying.

Best Regards,

To the Person That I talked with about Klass Kote Satin Catalyst a Few Days Ago:

I was so impressed with the Klass Kote results that I sent the e-mail below to all of my modeling friends.  This message is to just give you some feed back.

Subject: Klass Kote Epoxy Paint Test Results
------
I read a favorable report in the National Free Flight Society Digest about six months ago on the new Klass Kote epoxy paint, formulated as a fuel proofer overcoat (it is not only supposed to be just like the old K&B Super Poxy, but it will also mix with K&B Super Poxy).  Thinking ahead about the Airborn's silk job, I called the guy and ordered one can each of Clear, Satin Catalyst, Gloss Catalyst, and Reducer (thinner) which arrived almost immediately.  It has been sitting on a shelf in model room all this time.  The product cans are shown below, which required a little cash layout to buy.

I mixed up three small batches:
(a) 1-part Clear, 1-Part Satin Catalyst, & 1-Part Reducer.
(b) 1-part Clear, 1-Part Gloss Catalyst, & 1-Part Reducer.
(c) 1-part Clear, 1/2-Part Satin Catalyst, 1/2-Part Gloss Catalyst, & 1-Part Reducer.
This was to examine the variations in the sheen of each mix.  What is interesting is that you mix the Clear and the Catalyst and let it sit and combine for 45 minutes.  Then you mix in the reducer and apply.

I had a doped silked test frame that I had made up sometime ago for testing various fuel proofer coatings, which I used to test the three mixes.  I did not want to go through the hassle of air brushing the test samples, so I just painted the mixes on with a brush, which dried to the touch within 10 minutes.  I took the picture below after an hour's drying time.  I have tried to compare the sheen results of each mix in the picture for you.

Conclusions based on these test results:
  • Klass Kote is easy to mix and brushes on beautifully, flowing out leaving almost no brush marks (however, I will airbrush the Airborn).
  • You can easily vary the finish sheen by the mix proportions of Satin and Gloss Catalyst.
  • After drying for 30 minutes, the 100% Satin mix becomes basically invisible on the doped silk (see right panel above).
  • Upon close inspection, the effect 100% Satin mix is make the surface smooth with a consistent flat sheen or finish much like a light primer or sanding sealer might do.
  • For all the world, the 100% Satin mix surface looks just like a perfectly homogeneous doped silk covering.
  • No question about it, I will use the 100% Satin mix on the Airborn fuselage and other silked parts (I love its appearance!).

I hope that my test has provided all of you guys with some useful information.....................Tandy
